Frequently asked questions
How does the Thai baht reading work?
Each digit is read by its place value — หน่วย, สิบ, ร้อย, พัน, หมื่น, แสน — and ล้าน repeats for every six digits, so 1,000,000 is หนึ่งล้าน. A whole amount ends with บาทถ้วน, while an amount with satang ends with สตางค์. For example 1,250.50 reads หนึ่งพันสองร้อยห้าสิบบาทห้าสิบสตางค์.
How are satang read?
The two digits after the decimal point are satang (100 satang = 1 baht) and are read the same way as any number, followed by สตางค์. So 0.50 is ห้าสิบสตางค์ and 0.25 is ยี่สิบห้าสตางค์. If you type more than two decimal places, the value is rounded to the nearest satang.
Why is 21 read ยี่สิบเอ็ด and 101 read หนึ่งร้อยเอ็ด?
Thai has special cases for reading numbers. A 2 in the tens place is ยี่สิบ (not สองสิบ), 10 is สิบ (not หนึ่งสิบ), and a 1 in the units place after any higher digit becomes เอ็ด. That is why 21 is ยี่สิบเอ็ด and 101 is หนึ่งร้อยเอ็ด. This tool applies all of these rules automatically.
Is this the same as Excel’s BAHTTEXT function?
It follows the same conventions. Whole amounts end with บาทถ้วน, satang is read and followed by สตางค์, and a pure-satang amount such as 0.50 reads simply ห้าสิบสตางค์ without a baht part. Zero reads ศูนย์บาทถ้วน and negatives are prefixed with ลบ.
