Frequently asked questions

How do you count Thai words when Thai has no spaces?
It uses your browser's built-in Thai dictionary segmentation (Intl.Segmenter), the same engine that decides where to break Thai lines. It handles mixed Thai-English text correctly too.
What is the difference between "Characters" and "UTF-16 units"?
Characters counts what a human sees (grapheme clusters), so ำ or an emoji counts as 1. UTF-16 units is how most databases, APIs and social platforms measure length — an emoji can count as 2 or more. Seeing both explains why platforms disagree with your eyes.
Is this word counter free to use?
Yes, it is completely free with no sign-up and no limits. All counting happens in your browser with JavaScript, so your text never leaves your device.
Is my text sent to a server?
No. All counting happens in your browser with JavaScript. The text never leaves your device.
Why is the sentence count approximate for Thai?
Thai has no end-of-sentence punctuation, so sentence boundaries are estimated from spacing patterns. For Latin text with periods the count is exact.
